Welcome to a fantastic new year at Owairaka school, and to Room 17.
A huge ‘Kia ora and Welcome’ to our new year 5 Kauri students and their families and of course our Current Year 6 students who are taking up the mantle of resposibility left from 2009.
Another warm welcome to our new families to Owairaka School, to Kauri team and to Room 17; Jaedyn S, Tapu and Rosie.
Our second week is nearly complete. It is time to think about our goals for the term and what we want out of 2010.
Things currently operating:
*We have started Swimming. This is a very important activity to be involved in, where our students learn basic strokes, breathing and how to protect themselves and others in and around water. Please encourage your children to participate in Room 17 sessions – Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Our Kauri team swimming sports will be held on Tuesday 23rd February.
*For those keen Year 6 students, your Student Ambassador letters are due to Miss Whysall tomorrow. Come on Room 17 get those letters in pronto.
*In sports: We have our Cricket /Softball tournaments on Thursday 25th February. We would really appreciate transport for both of these events. So please if you are available, please let us know within the next couple of weeks.
*Enviro-Schools: We are going for Green Gold, each class is selecting a project to plan, create and display this year. Room 17 is looking at creating a visual display of our school pepeha and links to Wairaka, whom our school is named after. If you have any ideas, please send them into class.
Reminder: ‘MEET THE TEACHER’ is on this Wednesday 17th February in the hall. I look forward to meeting with you all and talking to you and your children about the exciting year we have planned.
